We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Chef to join our care home team. The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for preparing nutritious, home-style meals tailored to meet the individual dietary needs of our residents. You will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for our residents through food that is both delicious and nutritious.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and cook meals and snacks in accordance with residents' dietary requirements, preferences, and nutritional guidelines.
  • Ensure meals are presented in an appetizing and dignified manner, including texture-modified diets where required.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic kitchen environment in line with food safety standards (HACCP or equivalent).
  • Monitor and manage kitchen inventory, including ordering supplies and minimizing food waste.
  • Work collaboratively with care staff to understand individual resident needs, including allergies and medical conditions.
  • Support in menu planning and adapting dishes to seasonal ingredients and special occasions.
  • Supervise kitchen assistants and delegate tasks where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records for food safety, hygiene inspections, and compliance.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Chef, preferably in a healthcare, care home, or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of dietary needs for older adults, including texture-modified diets and common medical conditions (e.g., diabetes, dysphagia).
  • Level 2 or higher Food Hygiene Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Empathy, patience, and a caring attitude.

Desirable:

  • Experience with menu planning and nutritional guidelines for the elderly.
  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Professional Cookery or equivalent qualification.
  • First Aid training.
