The client is a UK-based engineering, installation and construction organisation specialising in bespoke bulk materials handling systems and full process plant solutions. Their expertise covers the full project lifecycle – from initial design engineering, and technical consultation through to EPCM/EPC contracts, construction, installation, commissioning, and long-term maintenance. They deliver solutions for clients across mining, cement, aggregates, food, alternative fuels, biomass, steel, infrastructure, and ports, both in the UK and internationally.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team with decades of experience and play a key role in delivering and completing a large, complex project.

The role involves supporting welding and fabrication teams during capital plant installation by preparing steel, grinding welds, cleaning and finishing metalwork, and assisting with general site and workshop tasks to ensure work is completed safely and to a high standard.

Key responsibilities:

  • Prepare steel for welding and installation by grinding, de-burring, beveling, and cleaning edges and surfaces.
  • Assist welders and fabricators with fit-up, positioning, holding materials, and general support during installation work.
  • Remove slag, spatter, excess weld material, rust, paint, and other contaminants from steel components.
  • Carry out finishing work on welded joints and steelwork to ensure a clean, accurate, and professional finish.
  • Move, sort, and stage steel materials, tools, and equipment as required.
  • Keep work areas clean, organised, and free from hazards.
  • Inspect tools and equipment before use and report defects or safety concerns.
  • Follow all site health and safety procedures, including the correct use of PPE and safe working practices.
  • Support other site activities as directed by supervisors or welders.

Skills and experience:

  • NVQ L2 in Fabrication or related sectors.
  • CSCS card.
  • Previous experience in steel fabrication, welding support, construction, or industrial installation preferred.
  • Ability to use angle grinders and related hand tools safely.
  • Good attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • Physically fit and able to work in a demanding site environment.
  • Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work as part of a team.

Working conditions:

  • Site-based industrial environment.
  • May involve manual handling, dust, noise, sparks, and working at pace to meet installation deadlines.
  • PPE required at all times.
