The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Manual VTL Operator to join a well-established precision engineering and manufacturing environment in Huddersfield. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled machinist who takes pride in producing high-quality components to tight tolerances and working with a team that values accuracy, craftsmanship and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Set and operate manual vertical turning lathes to machine precision components.
- Read and interpret detailed engineering drawings and job instructions.
- Select suitable tooling, speeds and feeds to achieve the required finish and tolerance.
- Work to exacting standards on one-off and small batch components.
- Carry out in-process checks using verniers, micrometers and other precision measuring equipment.
- Inspect finished components to ensure they meet drawing and quality requirements.
- Maintain a tidy, safe and efficient working area.
- Liaise with colleagues in production, engineering and quality to ensure smooth workflow.
About You
- Proven experience as a manual machinist, preferably with VTL experience.
- Strong ability to work from engineering drawings and tight tolerances.
- Confident using precision measuring tools and checking your own work.
- A strong eye for detail and pride in producing accurate, high-quality work.
- Reliable, self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a skilled team.
