About the Company Our client is a market leader in special purpose process systems, specialising in FMCG, pharmaceutical, automotive and industrial packaging solutions.

The Role They are seeking an experienced Software Controls Engineer to take ownership of automation, software engineering and electrical controls across multiple high-value projects.
This is a hands-on, project-driven role that covers the full lifecycle - from initial concept and software development to FAT/SAT testing and troubleshooting.
You’ll work closely with our SLT, leading initiatives to standardise processes and software standards while supporting both new builds and legacy systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement PLC/HMI/SCADA control systems from scratch (Siemens TIA Portal essential, Rockwell Allen Bradley & Mitsubishi desirable).
- Produce technical documentation including Functional Design Specifications (FDS) and O&M manuals.
- Collaborate with engineering and process teams to deliver projects to the highest standards of safety, quality, and compliance.
- Support FAT/SAT activities and provide remote and on-site assistance for field-based issues where needed.
- Work across multiple simultaneous projects, ranging from £50k to £15m in value.
- Maintain and improve software standards and libraries to move towards greater standardisation.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety systems, SIL, LOPA, and BS EN standards.
Person Specification
- Proven experience developing control systems in Siemens TIA Portal (S5/S7 experience beneficial), Allen Bradley (Control Logix, Compact Logix, SLC 500), Mitsu (MELSEC/ MX) – a mix would be ideal.
- Background in special purpose machinery, high speed, motion control, and other highly regulated industries.
- Strong knowledge of safety systems, process systems, and relevant legislation.
- Skilled in producing detailed technical documentation.
- Time-served/HNC/HND/Degree in Electrical, Control, or Software Engineering
- Self-starter with strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and within a project team.
- Adaptable, willing to travel European and world wide, and able to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
