Lead User Researcher | Remote first: West Yorkshire | £550 | 3 months | Outside IR35

I\’m looking for a Lead User Researcher to join a growing and ambitious User-Centred Design (UCD) practice.

You’ll be leading impactful user research across complex programmes in the public and private sectors, working in agile, multidisciplinary teams and collaborating closely with clients and delivery partners.

As a senior practitioner, you’ll play an active role in shaping UCD strategy and supporting the growth of the research community whilst remaining hands-on in delivery!

What you will be doing

✨ Choosing the right research for the job

You’ll recommend and run the most effective user research methods based on user needs, project goals and delivery constraints – NOT research for research’s sake.

You’ll create clear, phase-appropriate research artefacts and translate findings into practical, actionable insights that genuinely influence design and delivery.

✨ Supporting teams end to end

You’ll work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams across all phases of the design process, helping ensure user insight is embedded from early ideas through to implementation.

You’ll be seen as a credible expert in user research and UCD, confidently guiding conversations, challenging assumptions and helping teams make better decisions.

✨ Contributing to winning work

You’ll support the creation of compelling proposals and bids, bringing user research thinking into transformation projects and helping shape strong, user-centred approaches.

✨ Shaping the practice

You’ll contribute to the ongoing evolution of the user research and wider UCD strategy, helping define how research is delivered and scaled.

✨ Growing the community

You’ll mentor and support other researchers, building capability, confidence and a strong, supportive research community.

What you will bring

  • Proven experience delivering user research in the real world You’ve delivered user research within agile, multidisciplinary teams and across complex programmes and you’re comfortable navigating ambiguity and change.
  • Strong command of user research methods You know how (and when) to apply a wide range of research methods and tools, choosing approaches that genuinely move work forward.
  • Insight that drives decisions You’re experienced in translating research findings into clear, actionable insights that inform design, delivery and strategic decisions.
  • Experience supporting and mentoring others You’ve mentored or supported researchers or UCD teams, helping build confidence, capability and quality across the practice.
  • Comfortable working to service standards You’re familiar with GDS and/or NHS Service Standards, with experience running Discoveries and Alphas and supporting teams through assessments.

If you’re passionate about user research and want to work in a supportive, high-performing UCD team, we’d love to hear from you!
