Fancy being a hero? I need someone to protect critical research, data and services. Someone who can keep the business running if things go wrong! If you want to own disaster recovery end-to-end (strategy, testing, governance, incidents) then this could absolutely be the role for you.

One of our incredible partners are looking to bring in an IT Disaster Recovery Lead to shape frameworks, influence stakeholders and drive resilience at an organisational level. You'll sit within the InfoSec team meaning you'll be close to cyber incidents and risk (a very relevant, future proof skillset). This is absolutely a career-building role, not just a maintenance job.

Why this organisation though?

  • Complex environment: There’s a mix of legacy systems, cloud, research platforms, meaning more interesting technical challenges than a basic corporate setup.
  • Investment in digital & security: They’re heavily investing into their digital transformation and cyber resilience.
  • Ownership & Autonomy: This is the first dedicated Disaster Recovery person - you’ll define the function from scratch.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Owning & building the Disaster Recovery Framework: Develop and implement the university’s IT disaster recovery strategy. Define RTOs/RPOs, system criticality, and recovery plans. Basically you’ll be setting up how the organisation survives outages.
  • Lead Testing & Recovery Readiness: Design and run disaster recovery tests and simulations (cyber attacks, system failures, data loss). Identify gaps and drive improvements.
  • Managing the Backup & Data Protection Strategy: Oversee backup, restore, and data integrity processes across cloud/on-prem. Ensure data is secure, recoverable, and compliant (e.g. GDPR).
  • Driving Risk, Governance & Stakeholder Engagement: Work with IT + business teams to assess resilience and risk. Feed into risk registers, audits, and compliance (ISO / NIST). Act as the go-to expert for recovery during incidents.

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience designing, implementing, or managing IT disaster recovery plans.
  • Understanding of RTO/RPO, backups, and recovery processes.
  • Strong background in IT risk, governance frameworks, and compliance.
  • Experience aligning to standards like ISO 22301 / working towards NIST.
  • Experience influencing stakeholders and running workshops / audits.
  • Experience setting up or improving processes, frameworks, or testing programmes.
  • Running DR tests / simulations / audits and driving improvements.

If you want to take ownership of a critical resilience function and build something from the ground up, I’d love to hear from you!
