About the job: It would be your job to manage all aspects of the Scarborough receiving area with support from technically skilled and semi-skilled operatives and engineers to deliver all performance targets relating to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, Environment and People. You would engage and motivate your team to exceed performance targets, through driving a talent and performance culture, creating a collaborative and inclusive team by encouraging and supporting the team to work together and to demonstrate our values. Nurturing and developing key talent by creating opportunities for them to learn, grow and succeed.

Reporting into the Potato Supply & Operations Manager you would also:

  • Plan, manage and co-ordinate the development of the shift team’s skills and capabilities.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Function to lead a shift team consisting of technically skilled and semi-skilled manufacturing Operatives & Technicians to ensure team, departmental and shift performance objectives are delivered, including the safety of people and food and the maintenance of assets.
  • Provide training and coaching to the shift team to ensure they have the technical knowledge and skills to perform their job role to the required level of competence.
  • Take accountability for personal safety, team safety and others, maintaining mandatory business and legislative compliance in your area of authority.
  • Pro-actively manage quality specification requirements applicable to your area, ensuring Best Operating Practices (BOP) are being followed and on-line data collection, validation and analysis is being completed and appropriate actions taken in a timely manner to address potential deviations.
  • Deliver the raw material schedule whilst ensuring agreed safety, quality efficiency and cost targets are met.
  • Pro-active management of supply and operational costs within your area; daily budget control and accurate and timely cost reporting against agreed budgets.
  • Identify, implement and deliver against opportunities for continuous improvement using appropriate lean manufacturing tools, techniques and principles; generating enablers and ensuring timely and cost effective completion of activities.

What we’re looking for… Our ideal candidate will be someone who is currently a Leader in a manufacturing / FMCG environment. You’ll be a natural born leader, who builds partnerships and works collaboratively with others. You will also have the following:

  • Experience of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing tools.
  • Demonstrate a strong safety, food safety and quality mindset (working to GMP standards and be audit ready at all times).
  • Have had exposure to budgetary controls.
  • A winning mentality, and being able to hold yourself and others accountable for meeting goals- even under tough circumstances.
  • Creating environments where people are motivated to do their best to help manufacturing achieve its objectives.

Shift Pattern: The shift pattern is 2 days 7am-7pm, 1 day off, 2 nights 7pm-7am followed by 3 days off.

Location: You’ll be based at our Scarborough plant in North Yorkshire. We opened this plant back in the swinging sixties, but it’s definitely not stuck in the past. It’s one of the largest French fry factories in the world and after a recent development, it’s also one of the most high tech. Our team of over 300 colleagues work hard to make sure the quality of our products keep our customers returning for more, for now and years to come!
