About the role. Our Maintenance Engineers work as part of a multi-disciplined team carrying out first line maintenance tasks and improvements on equipment throughout the factory efficiently and effectively. Youâll provide feedback on completed tasks into the engineering maintenance system to ensure equipment histories and costs are kept up to date and to enable follow up work to be identified and planned.
Reporting into the Shift Compliance Lead, you will also:
- Consider all implications when carrying out designated tasks to minimise wasted time and materials.
- Have a âFix it right, nowâ work ethic and use Root Cause Analysis to determine the underlying reasons behind problems and failures and act on the findings.
- Be observant at all times when in the plant and report any deficiencies that cannot be rectified.
- Provide and implement ideas to improve manufacturing, efficiency and equipment reliability.
- Work safely, with regard for your duty of care to yourself and to others who may be affected by your work.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures at all times.
- Work in liaison with other departments as required and provide support and assistance where possible.
- Enter accurate, detailed feedback on all completed tasks into the CMMS on a daily basis.
- Work closely with your Line Manager to ensure the smooth execution of both day-to-day maintenance tasks and shutdown work.
- Ensure the upkeep and reliability of all plant and equipment in your shifts designated area by feeding back requirements to your Line Manager.
- Identify through knowledge and analysis, areas that will contribute to improved product quality or plant efficiency.
- Play a pivotal role in communicating and co-ordinating the activities associated with change.
- Support the driving improvements initiative on site, and understand and implement the basic principles of lean manufacturing.
Requirements. Weâre looking for Shift Engineers with strong electrical or mechanical skills, but ideally both. Itâs a given that you will have experience of working in a busy maintenance department, preferably within a food manufacturing department. You will also have:

- Qualification in additional engineering disciplines (NVQ L3 / City & Guilds) (Desirable).
- Broad knowledge of modern maintenance techniques (Essential).
- Practical engineering experience (Essential).
Shift Pattern. Youâll work a mixture of day and night shifts, with every other weekend off.
Location. Youâll be based at our Scarborough plant in North Yorkshire. We opened this plant back in the swinging sixties, but itâs definitely not stuck in the past. Itâs one of the largest French fry factories in the world and after a recent development, itâs also one of the most high tech.
The benefits of working for McCain. For working hard, youâll also get a great salary and some pretty good benefits including:
- An excellent pension where we will pay double what you do, up to a maximum of 12% of your pay.
- Flexible holidays â where you can buy & sell up to 5 days holiday per year.
- Optional health cash plan.
- Cycle to work scheme.
