DevOps / Cloud Engineer (AWS) – ClickOps to CDK Migration – 9+ Month Contract – Remote
Are you the kind of engineer who'd rather walk into someone else's ClickOps mess and actually fix it properly, not just document it and move on? We're working with an established public sector-facing transport technology business, fully remote, running a .NET Core / C# stack. Their AWS environment has grown organically through the console rather than being scripted, and they now need someone to take ownership of modernising it properly. This contract will be outside IR35 and is 100% remote.
What you’ll be doing:
- Auditing the current AWS environment - networking and virtual security setup, and how the API infrastructure is provisioned.
- Migrating manually-configured ("ClickOps") infrastructure into CDK and CloudFormation specifically, not Terraform, with proper environment separation (dev/staging/production).
- Tightening security and access policies as part of the migration, not as a separate afterthought.
- Working alongside a small team of C#/.NET developers on a live production system, so changes need to be made without disrupting live services.
- Documenting the new setup clearly enough that the in-house team can maintain it once you’ve moved on.
What they’re looking for:
- Strong, demonstrable hands-on experience with AWS CDK and CloudFormation specifically - a deliberate choice, not an open "IaC tool of your choice" brief.
- Solid AWS fundamentals across networking, IAM, and cloud security best practice.
- Proven experience migrating an existing, unscripted environment to IaC end-to-end, rather than building IaC from greenfield.
If you want a contract where modernising the infrastructure is properly down to you, rather than a small slice of someone else's roadmap, this is worth a conversation.
