Infrastructure Engineer - Microsoft & Azure Cloud Focus - Hull

Are you the kind of Infrastructure Engineer who wants more than a service desk queue?

Not in a "no support structure" way, but in a "you actually get to build and shape it" way.

We're working with a well-established UK business that's investing in its core IT Infrastructure and Azure cloud estate.

Now they need someone to help run it, improve it, and push it forward.

Not just keep the lights on - but actually make it better.

What you'll be doing

This isn't a "sit and wait for tickets" kind of role.

  • Owning 2nd/3rd line support across core Microsoft Server, AD, SQL, and the M365 E5 stack
  • Getting hands-on with Azure - operations, administration, and ongoing cloud development
  • Managing the VMware and SAN estate (ESXi, v Centre, physical server hardware)
  • Supporting core networking - LAN/WAN, Firewall, switching, Wi Fi
  • Working within a zero trust security model and genuinely living the Cyber best practice standards
  • Creating documentation and training that actually helps the business, not just ticking a box

There's a lot of variety here - infrastructure, cloud, and everything in between.

That's part of the appeal.

What they care about

Yes, they want someone with strong Microsoft infrastructure and Azure experience.

But more importantly, they want

  • The right attitude
  • Someone self-motivated and proactive, not someone who waits to be told
  • Someone who can lead by example within a team

Technical range can be built on.

Attitude is harder to teach.

That said, you'll need a solid technical foundation

  • 5+ years at 2nd/3rd line
  • Strong Microsoft Server and Azure/M365 E5 experience
  • VMware v Sphere and SAN storage management
  • Confidence communicating complex technical detail to both technical and non-technical people

You don't need to tick every advantageous box. But you do need to be someone who picks things up fast and gets stuck in.

Why this is worth a look

Most infrastructure roles are just maintenance.

This one isn't.

  • You'll have real input into how the Azure and Microsoft estate evolves
  • You'll work across infrastructure, cloud, and networking - not one narrow lane
  • You're joining a business that invests properly in its IT and in its people

That usually means more ownership.

  • And more impact

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks
