We’re looking for a Senior / Lead Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC) Developer who wants to stay deeply hands-on while taking clear technical ownership of the ERP platform. This role is ideal for someone who loves building, designing, and improving Business Central solutions day to day, but is also ready to lead by example, raise engineering standards, and guide a small ERP development team as the business scales.
You’ll be the technical authority for Business Central, shaping how it’s built, integrated, supported, and evolved, while spending 80%+ of your time hands-on in AL, integrations, and real delivery work.
The Role
As Lead D365 Business Central Developer, you’ll own the technical delivery, stability, and evolution of the ERP platform. You’ll work closely with the Head of Engineering and senior stakeholders across Finance and Operations, acting as the bridge between business needs and high-quality technical execution. This is not a “hands-off” leadership role. You’ll be writing code, reviewing code, and solving real problems every week, while also setting direction and improving how ERP engineering is done.
What you’ll be doing
- Hands-on development (core focus)
- Designing, building, and maintaining AL extensions, customisations, and integrations
- Developing robust, scalable solutions across finance, operations, and core business processes
- Ensuring high standards around code quality, performance, security, and testing
- Getting involved in complex problem-solving and technical design decisions
- Technical leadership & mentoring
- Acting as the technical lead for a small ERP development team
- Running code reviews, pairing where needed, and setting clear technical direction
- Defining and evolving development standards, patterns, and best practices for Business Central
- Supporting and mentoring developers to raise overall capability
- Stakeholder collaboration
- Working closely with Finance, Operations, Product, and Engineering leadership
- Translating business requirements into well-architected, pragmatic technical solutions
- Acting as a trusted technical partner to non-technical stakeholders
- Platform ownership & operational excellence
- Owning production support for Business Central, including incident response and root-cause analysis
- Improving deployment pipelines, monitoring, and overall ERP reliability
- Proactively identifying technical debt, risks, and opportunities to improve the platform
- Engineering alignment
- Partnering with engineering leadership on the ERP roadmap and technical strategy
- Ensuring Business Central integrates cleanly with the wider technology platform
Requirements:
- Strong, hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC), or NAV
- Proven experience developing in AL, including extensions and integrations
- Experience in a Senior or Lead developer role, or ready to step into one
- Comfortable owning production systems and driving continuous improvement
- Confident working directly with business stakeholders and balancing technical and commercial needs
