Fylter are seeking a talented individual to take on the role of Transport Manager overseeing a busy and challenging department at a business based in Lillyhall, near Workington. This is very much a hands-on role, in which you will provide vital support to the business, working closely with the General Manager, Customer Service and Loading / Packing Departments to ensure the team provides highly accurate, on-time deliveries to their customers.
They currently have a fleet of c.25 - mixture of eighteen tonne lorries and sprinter vans on a fixed delivery and collection schedule to high quality clients large and small across the North of England and South of Scotland. The ideal candidate will have a manufacturing or logistics background and be an experienced manager of a high performing team. We are looking for an organised and committed individual to drive improved performance in the team in a fast-growing business.
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Take overall responsibility for the organisation of the Transport Department and provide strategic advice and planning support to the Transport Supervisor;
- Be responsible for managing all drivers, including van drivers, scheduling of rotas, rest days and so on in conjunction with the Transport Supervisor;
- Manage recruitment and selection of drivers in conjunction with the HR Department;
- Ensure the Company complies fully with all Ministry of Transport and VOSA legislation and requirements;
- Evaluate and review daily route scheduling and ensure efficiency in designated routes;
- Ensure safe systems of working for all staff under your responsibility including provision of all manual handling and other training activities;
- Work within monthly financial budget constraints;
- Monitor and manage individual staff performance and provide coaching and training as well as deal effectively with any performance or disciplinary matters in conjunction with the HR team;
- Be prepared to be flexible with hours worked;
- Be qualified to National CPC level as a minimum.
