About the Role
We are looking for a detail-oriented Specification Technologist / Technical Coordinator to join our Technical team in Leeds.
Reporting directly to the Technical Services Manager, you will play a central role in delivering accurate, legally compliant finished product specifications that meet all customer Codes of Practice and food safety standards. You will also provide vital technical administration across the department, ensuring our quality systems, audits, and customer requirements run seamlessly.
Key Responsibilities
- Specification Management: Liaise with customers to write, update, and approve finished product specifications using customer and internal electronic portals prior to launch.
- Customer Complaints & Non-Conformances: Log, investigate, and respond to customer complaints promptly. Manage the non-conformance process using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify trends and drive corrective actions.
- Technical Documentation: Maintain and update technical documents, produce attribute guides, establish documented work instructions, and organise product assessments and analyses.
- Auditing: Complete assigned audits within agreed timescales to support the internal audit programme, escalating issues where necessary. Support preparations and data gathering for third-party and external customer audits.
- KPIs & Continuous Improvement: Compile data for monthly technical KPI reporting, identify trends, and suggest QA process improvements that support both customer expectations and production operations.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams—including production, Commercial, and Purchasing—as well as external customers.
What We Are Looking For
- Proven technical administration or specification writing experience within the food manufacturing industry.
- Hands-on experience writing specifications via bespoke retailer portals and electronic formats.
- Solid understanding of BRCGS Food Safety (Issue 9) requirements relating to specifications.
- Full working knowledge of HACCP principles and document control best practice.
- Strong IT literacy, particularly across Microsoft Office packages.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally with external stakeholders.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and capable of prioritizing tasks effectively under pressure.
- Experience working within a short shelf-life / chilled food environment.
- Qualified Internal Auditor.
