About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an LGV Driver / Team Leader to join our Waste Operations team at Snowdon Road Depot. This is a key frontline supervisory role where you will be responsible for leading a small team of loaders while delivering high-quality refuse, recycling, and environmental services across the borough of Fylde. You will play a vital part in maintaining performance standards, ensuring safe working practices, and delivering a reliable service to residents. As a team leader, you will be expected to set standards, lead by example, and ensure your crew operates efficiently, safely, and professionally at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and motivate a small team of loaders on a daily basis
  • Deliver household and commercial waste and recycling collections to a high standard
  • Carry out amenity cleansing duties including litter picking, fly-tip removal, graffiti cleansing, and sand/leaf clearance
  • Ensure all work is completed in line with service schedules and performance targets
  • Drive LGV vehicles safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with legal requirements
  • Undertake daily vehicle checks and report defects in line with procedures
  • Take responsibility for the cleanliness, care, and safe operation of vehicles and equipment
  • Ensure compliance with Council health & safety policies, risk assessments, and safe systems of work
  • Act as a reversing assistant where required and ensure safe manoeuvring at all times
  • Monitor crew performance and address any issues promptly and professionally
  • Provide clear direction and maintain good communication within the team
  • Deliver excellent customer service and deal with resident enquiries in a professional manner
  • Report missed bins, access issues, hazards, or service disruptions to management
  • Support service improvements and contribute to a positive working culture

About You

We are looking for someone who is reliable, proactive, and takes pride in delivering a high-quality service. You will:

  • Hold a valid LGV Category C driving licence
  • Hold a Driver CPC qualification (35 hours accredited training)
  • Have proven experience driving LGVs in a fast-paced environment
  • Have a good understanding of driver legislation and compliance (e.g. driver hours, overloading, vehicle checks, Operator Licence requirements)
  • Demonstrate safe, efficient, and economical driving practices
  • Have experience leading or supervising a small team (desirable but not essential)
  • Be confident giving instructions and addressing performance issues when required
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Be able to work on your own initiative and make decisions within guidelines
  • Be organised and able to manage workloads effectively
  • Be physically fit and willing to support manual duties when required
  • Be adaptable and flexible to meet service demands
