We are recruiting for an experienced Contractor-Side NEC4 Project Manager to support the delivery of a major, long-term civil engineering and infrastructure scheme in Leeds. The project focuses on the remediation of a wetland and is a large, complex, multi-disciplinary infrastructure programme involving significant earthworks, drainage, structural concrete and environmental works, delivered under NEC4. The works extend into autumn and winter delivery periods, making programme certainty, sequencing and interface management critical to success. The scheme has a target completion date of September 2027, with an early completion incentive in place. As such, this role is heavily programme-led and coordination-focused, rather than traditional site management.

The Role

This position acts as the Contractor-Side Project Manager under NEC4, with a strong focus on governance, control and assurance within a live contract environment. You will work closely with planning and commercial teams to manage programme risk, contractual obligations, and complex interfaces across multiple contractors and disciplines. This is not a Site Manager role; it is a senior project control and coordination role within a structured NEC4 delivery environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as Contractor-Side Project Manager under NEC4
  • Manage Early Warnings, Risk Reduction Meetings, and live risk registers
  • Support the assessment and management of Compensation Events (time and cost)
  • Work closely with the Planner to:
  • Review sequencing and re-sequencing options
  • Test acceleration strategies and additional resource scenarios
  • Understand productivity constraints and opportunities for parallel working
  • Coordinate interfaces between:
    • Tier 1 contractor teams
    • Mechanical & Electrical contractors
    • Designers and other key stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities for early area release to reduce back-end programme risk
  • Provide clear, evidence-based input on what is feasible vs not feasible
  • Support short-term lookahead planning and medium-term programme confidence reviews
  • Scope of Works (High-Level)

    • Earthworks (cut & fill)
    • Foul and storm drainage
    • Cast-in-situ concrete structures
    • Retaining walls (including MSE systems)
    • Haul roads, footpaths and ducting
    • Headwalls and associated civils
    • Concrete crushing and re-use
    • Silt mitigation and surface water management

    Essential Experience

    • Proven experience as a Project Manager on NEC4 contracts (contractor side)
    • Strong understanding of programme logic and critical path
    • Experience working closely with planners and commercial teams
    • Ability to manage multiple contractor and discipline interfaces
    • Comfortable operating in time-pressured, constrained delivery environments

    Desirable Experience

    • Background in civils, earthworks, drainage, flood defence or infrastructure
    • Experience on large Tier 1-led projects
    • Experience managing seasonal productivity risk, winter working, or acceleration strategies
