A leading civil engineering contractor is delivering a major infrastructure scheme in Oxfordshire and is looking to appoint an experienced Site Engineer to support delivery on a complex highways and structures project. Working closely with the Section Engineer and site management team, you will be responsible for core engineering activities on site, including setting out, quality control, coordination with subcontractors, and ensuring works are delivered safely, accurately, and to programme. This role would suit someone with strong site-based engineering experience, ideally gained with a main contractor on highways or heavy civil projects.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Carry out setting out, surveying, and measurement works
- Check and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical information
- Plan daily engineering activities to support programme requirements
- Coordinate materials, plant, and information with procurement and site teams
- Liaise with designers, subcontractors, and third parties to resolve technical queries
- Supervise works on site and monitor subcontractor performance
- Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality standards
- Maintain accurate site records, reports, and as-built information
- Arrange testing, inspections, and calibration of equipment where required
- Identify technical issues early and propose practical solutions
- Support the Site Agent and Section Engineer with wider site activities
- Contribute ideas to improve buildability, efficiency, and site processes
Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or Construction Management
- Previous experience in a Site Engineer role on civil engineering projects
- Strong setting out and surveying capability
- Confident communicator with the ability to coordinate across teams
- CSCS (or equivalent) card
- Site Health & Safety induction
- First Aid at Work certification
Desirable
- Background on highways, bridges, or major infrastructure schemes
- Experience working for a main contractor
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, GPS, and modern surveying equipment
- Understanding of materials, testing regimes, and quality control processes
- Exposure to procurement planning and site logistics
