Job Purpose

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Veterinarian to join our Biology team. This role supports the Biology Director in maintaining and enhancing the health and welfare of our salmon stock. As the Lead Clinician of our in-house Veterinary Practice, you will guide veterinary strategy, foster independent clinical judgement, and promote proactive, welfare-first practices aligned with commercial objectives.

Role Accountabilities

  • Lead the in-house Veterinary Practice, advising on all aspects of fish health and welfare.
  • Conduct routine health assessments, audits, and disease diagnostics across all stages of production.
  • Guide vaccination strategy and biosecurity risk management in collaboration with operational leads.
  • Prescribe treatments and coordinate mitigation strategies with the broader Biology Team.
  • Deliver staff training on disease identification, biosecurity, and welfare standards.
  • Maintain accurate health records and compliance documentation.
  • Support R&D initiatives aligned with the latest science and business priorities.
  • Foster collaboration across operational teams to enhance animal health and productivity.

Person Specification

  • Degree in Veterinary Medicine and RCVS registration, with a specialisation in Aquatic Animal Health.
  • Extensive experience in diagnostics and complex problem solving.
  • Strong knowledge of aquaculture systems and biosecurity protocols; salmon experience preferred.
  • Analytical, data-driven mindset with environmental awareness.
  • Effective communicator at all levels, from farm staff to executives.
  • Familiar with the Scottish Aquaculture Code of Good Practice (CoGP).
  • Competent in IT for reporting, analytics, and business case preparation.
  • Valid UK Driving Licence required.
