Do you have at least three years' mechanical design engineer experience? Have you worked with sheet metal designs for small mechanical assemblies? This could be the role for you! Futures seek to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer to design metal (extrusions, fabrication, castings, etc), plastic enclosures and additional mechanical components for an electro-mechanical engineering business. Production assistance with the design of jigs/fixtures will also be required from time to time.

As Mechanical Design Engineer you will have a recognised mechanical engineering qualification and at least three years design experience of all types of enclosures for a high volume manufacturing business. It would be beneficial for the appointed Mechanical Design Engineer to have experience of industrial/product design and have a flair for the aesthetic. On offer is the opportunity to join an industry leading business that design and manufacture their product on site near Castleford. Our client has a full order book for the foreseeable future which is made up of some of the biggest names in British engineering.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Design plastic injection moulded components
  • Design fabricated interlocking aluminium & steel enclosures
  • Carry out mechanical fit and compatibility checks on electronic assemblies. Produce wiring diagrams and assembly instructions when required
  • Assist production with design of relevant jigs & fixtures, and manage their manufacture
  • Ensure all products are designed for ease of manufacture & assembly
  • Evaluate components from datasheet information and then approve through appropriate testing
  • Build and test initial samples and qualify the design with correct documentation
  • Provide technical support to Production for day-to-day design, performance and quality issues which arise
Skills and Abilities:
  • Of degree calibre within mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Familiar with 2D & 3D modelling and design packages. Solidworks preferred but not essential
  • Knowledge of metal (castings, sheet metal, extrusions, castings, etc)
  • Experience in high volume manufacturing environment with design for manufacture and test
