I'm looking for an experienced Head of Project to lead the delivery of a portfolio of high-value, low-volume manufacturing projects for a globally recognised engineering and manufacturing organisation.
This is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing complex customer programmes from contract award through to delivery, ensuring projects are executed safely, on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience managing large-scale engineering or manufacturing programmes, leading multidisciplinary teams, and maintaining full commercial accountability for a project portfolio valued at £15 million at any given time.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership across a portfolio of complex manufacturing and engineering projects exceeding £15 million in value.
- Lead, coach and develop multidisciplinary project teams including Project Managers, Engineers, Commercial Managers and Planning professionals.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, profitably and in line with customer expectations.
- Take ownership of programme governance, resource planning, commercial performance and risk management.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with executive stakeholders, key customers and suppliers.
- Drive operational excellence, continuous improvement and project delivery best practice.
- Manage contract performance, change control and claims where required.
- Produce accurate portfolio reporting, forecasting and financial updates for senior leadership.
- Champion a culture of accountability, collaboration and high performance.
Essential Experience
- Significant experience in a Project Director, Head of Projects or Senior Programme Management role within manufacturing, engineering, defence, aerospace, energy, rail or other complex industrial sectors.
- Proven experience managing a live project portfolio valued at £15 million simultaneously.
- Experience delivering high-value, low-volume, engineered-to-order manufacturing projects.
- Demonstrable success leading large multidisciplinary teams through complex project lifecycles.
- Strong commercial acumen with responsibility for P&L, forecasting, margins and contractual performance.
- Experience engaging with executive stakeholders and major customers.
- Excellent leadership, influencing and decision-making skills.
- Strong understanding of project governance, risk management and resource planning.
Desirable
- Degree qualified in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business or related discipline.
- Chartered status (CEng, Ch PP or equivalent).
- APM, PRINCE2 or PMP qualification.
- Experience of ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle or Microsoft Dynamics.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
