Our client is recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Fitter to join a busy engineering and maintenance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled, hands-on mechanical professional who takes pride in delivering high-quality work and is comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment.

As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair and overhaul of mechanical equipment and machinery. You will work from engineering drawings and technical specifications to ensure equipment is assembled, aligned and maintained to the required safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out mechanical fitting, assembly, installation and maintenance activities.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and complete repairs efficiently.
  • Strip down, inspect, repair and rebuild mechanical equipment and components.
  • Work with equipment such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, conveyors and associated machinery.
  • Carry out alignment, adjustment and replacement of mechanical components.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications and maintenance instructions.
  • Use hand tools, power tools and measuring equipment safely and accurately.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance and respond to breakdowns where required.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with health and safety procedures and site requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities.
  • Work effectively with engineers, maintenance teams and other trades to complete projects on time.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience working as a Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Fitter, Mechanical Technician or similar.
  • A recognised mechanical engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong mechanical fitting and fault-finding skills.
  • Experience working with rotating and/or industrial mechanical equipment.
  • The ability to confidently read engineering drawings.
  • Good knowledge of mechanical components, tolerances and fitting techniques.
  • A strong understanding of workplace health and safety.
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a wider engineering team.
  • A reliable, practical and quality-focused approach to work.

Experience within manufacturing, heavy engineering, utilities, construction, energy, process plants or industrial maintenance would be particularly relevant.
