Have you got a keen interest in the field of electrical testing and inspection? Do you want to work with one of the leading electrical testing companies in the UK? This could be your first step to an exciting career as an Electrical Testing Apprentice, where you will receive on-the-job training.

As an apprentice electrician, you will learn to carry out a range of electrical testing, including:

  • Electrical installation condition report
  • Emergency light testing
  • Thermal imaging
  • Portable appliance testing and data analysis

This will also include:

  • Repair and installation work in various settings such as offices, banks, sporting arenas, corporate headquarters, public sectors, colleges, universities, distribution centres, schools, government, and commercial outlets.
  • Carrying out work to a high standard in compliance with health and safety legislation.
  • Completing all necessary paperwork and NICEIC records to current legislative standards.
  • Attending college and completing coursework on time and to a high standard.
  • Maintaining work details to document experience.
  • Taking on additional responsibilities in years two and three.
  • Carrying out administrative work associated with departmental management requirements.
  • Liaising and working with other trades and apprentices as required.
  • Understanding and complying with all health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Participating in regular training and reviews with mentors and line managers.
  • Undertaking additional duties as required.

Training to be provided: The training will be a mix of practical learning and theory covering health and safety legislation and practices for overseeing and organising the work environment.

Applicants must: Be studying for or have a minimum of 3 GCSEs with grades C and above, including maths and English.

  • Good level of physical fitness, including the ability to work at height and in differing conditions.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to work harmoniously with others in a positive team atmosphere.
  • IT skills for reporting and maintaining records.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently and courteously.
  • Organisational skills and responsibility for planning and organising own work.
  • Customer care skills and problem-solving abilities.
  • Presentation, administrative, number, analytical, logical, team working, creative, initiative, non-judgemental, patience, enthusiasm/motivation, trustworthiness, reliability, and self-motivation.
  • Willingness to work all over the UK as part of a mobile team (accommodation supplied).
  • Hold a full and valid driving licence by the completion date of your training.

Working Conditions: This role is field-based, and personal protective equipment will be provided. It is the apprentice's responsibility to ensure the PPE is used properly. The role requires flexibility and the ability to deal constructively with variable situations.

Things to consider: Through work experience, studying, training, and development, complete a course study and obtain the following work-related professional qualifications:

  • City and Guilds 18th edition within two years of joining.
  • City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations - 2391 within four years of joining.

There is a chance of progression, and further training will be provided, with a good chance of a permanent post at the end of the apprenticeship.
