Cambridge Sashcraft has been manufacturing and restoring sash windows in Cambridge since 2000. As a growing company settling into new production premises, we are looking for a motivated junior to join our workshop team and learn the craft from the ground up. We have a proud reputation for delivering the highest quality of service and are looking forward to welcoming a new addition who shares that mindset. Our workshop is 7,000 square feet, set on the tranquil Heath Farm just outside Fulbourn. Given the location, the ideal candidate would be able to drive to and from the site.
The Role
This is a hands‑on, varied role ideal for someone who enjoys working with their hands and wants to build a long‑term career in a traditional craft environment. Initially you will be trained and mentored by our lead spray painter and will take on a range of tasks across the workshop. Day‑to‑day responsibilities will include:
- Learning spray painting techniques under the direct guidance of our lead spray painter
- Glazing finished sashes, casements and doors once sprayed
- Hand decoration of joinery in the workshop
- Preparing and organising ironmongery for upcoming jobs, and contributing to the workshop running efficiently
As you grow in confidence, there is also the opportunity to:
- Assist with on‑site decoration work
- Learn joinery skills and assist with assembling sashes
What We're Looking For
We are open to applicants at an early stage of their working life — perhaps someone who has apprenticed in decorating, joinery, or similar hands‑on work and is now looking to develop a career. No formal qualifications are required, and full training will be provided. This is a permanent, full‑time position. We want someone who is looking to grow with the company over time, take real ownership of their work, and build expertise in a specialist trade. Above all, you should be reliable, take pride in what you produce, and be happy working as part of a small, close‑knit team. Candidates should represent the company positively, demonstrating politeness and professionalism when interacting with coworkers and customers.
What We Offer
- Full training in spray painting, glazing, and hand decoration
- A friendly, collaborative, working environment where personal development is prioritised
- The chance to develop a broad, varied skill set in a specialist craft trade
- Pay commensurate with experience, with scope for progression as skills and responsibilities develop
Cambridge Sashcraft values a positive, friendly and collaborative work environment, and we look forward to welcoming someone who shares our commitment to quality craftsmanship and customer satisfaction.
