We own and manage more than 10,000 homes across the East Midlands, supporting over 20,000 customers and communities. We’re proud of our strong regulatory ratings, financial stability, and the social impact we deliver, but we’re far from standing still.
As a respected voice in the sector, we’re active members of the National Housing Federation and PlaceShapers, and play a leading role in shaping housing strategy locally and nationally. Recent refinancing has given us the platform to invest confidently in the future, enhancing our homes, services, systems and ways of working.
We’re now seeking a new Non-Executive Director to join our Board with specific expertise in digital and technology. Someone who will bring sharp insight, strategic challenge and a genuine commitment to improving services through innovation.
Why join Futures?
We’re ambitious, forward-thinking, and deeply rooted in our communities. Our latest corporate plan outlines bold steps to strengthen the customer experience, invest in digital capability, and enhance the resilience of our organisation. This is about much more than upgrading systems, it’s about transforming how we work so that customers have a seamless, modern and efficient experience.
You’ll be joining a high-performing board that values diverse thinking, shared purpose, and responsible leadership. Together, we set the strategic direction for Futures and support the Executive Team to deliver our objectives with integrity, impact and ambition.
What we’re looking for
- While we welcome applications from individuals with a broad range of experience, we are particularly interested in those who can bring a strong understanding of digital transformation.
- Champion the use of digital technology and adoption of new ways of working, recognising value for money achieved through making organisations more effective and robust.
- Bring a strategic understanding of new technology, particularly AI, along with experience of digital technology roadmaps.
- Understand the need for single source of the truth, particularly in relation to both customer and property data.
- Prioritise the benefits that digital technology and innovation can bring to customers and staff.
- Understand the need for better system integration and simplification of systems.
Board responsibilities
- Help shape our strategy and ensure we have the resources in place to succeed.
- Offer independent insight and challenge to the Executive Team.
- Oversee risk, performance and compliance with a focus on strong governance.
- Support the development of a positive, inclusive organisational culture.
- Contribute to key decisions and act as an ambassador for Futures externally.
- Fulfil all statutory and regulatory duties of a board director.
You don’t need to have worked in housing before, but you will share our sense of social purpose, our ambition to do more for our customers, and our belief that well governed organisations are best placed to make a lasting difference.
Time commitment
Approx. 15 days per year, including:
- Four scheduled Board meetings (in person at our offices near Castle Donnington)
- Around six Committee meetings (usually in person but some online)

- Meetings typically take place during office hours at Futures House, or online.
Remuneration: £9,161 per annum, reviewed annually. All reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
