We are recruiting for an experienced Quality Engineer to join a precision engineering/manufacturing business, supporting quality activities across both production and inspection.
This is a hands-on position suited to someone who enjoys being close to the product and manufacturing process. Alongside core Quality Engineering responsibilities, you will spend a proportion of your time inspecting precision-engineered components, interpreting engineering drawings and verifying that manufactured parts meet the required dimensional and quality standards.
Working closely with Manufacturing, Engineering and Quality teams, you will be responsible for maintaining and improving product quality while supporting the inspection and release of precision-engineered components.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out dimensional and visual inspection of precision-engineered components.
- Using a CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) as part of component inspection and verification.
- Using conventional inspection equipment including micrometers, verniers, height gauges, bore gauges and other precision measuring equipment.
- Reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings, specifications and tolerances.
- Supporting first-off, in-process and final inspection activities.
- Producing and reviewing inspection documentation and quality records.
- Investigating internal and customer quality issues and supporting root-cause analysis.
- Raising and managing non-conformance reports (NCRs) and supporting corrective actions.
- Working with Production and Engineering teams to identify the root cause of manufacturing defects and prevent recurrence.
- Supporting continuous improvement activities across manufacturing and quality processes.
- Ensuring products are manufactured and released in accordance with customer, drawing and quality requirements.
- Supporting customer or supplier quality activities where required.
We are looking for someone with a strong engineering quality background who is equally comfortable working at a computer investigating a quality issue and being on the shop floor inspecting a precision-machined component.
- Previous experience within a Quality Engineer, Quality Inspector, Manufacturing Quality or similar engineering quality role.
- Previous CMM exposure.
- Practical experience inspecting precision-engineered or machined components.
- A good understanding of engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances and manufacturing specifications.
- Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment.
- Knowledge of non-conformance, root-cause analysis and corrective-action processes.
- A good understanding of quality principles within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem solving.
- The confidence to work closely with machinists, manufacturing engineers and other technical personnel.
