The Opportunity
FutureGen Recruitment is representing an ambitious and growing planning consultancy based in the South West that delivers high-profile and technically challenging projects across residential, mixed-use, regeneration, infrastructure, and strategic development. We’re looking for an experienced Senior Town Planner with a strong planning background and the confidence to lead on significant projects, support business growth, and work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Lead on key planning applications from inception to delivery
- Prepare high-quality planning statements, design and access statements, and supporting planning documentation
- Manage client relationships and develop new business opportunities
- Coordinate with internal teams (design, urbanism, environmental and transport specialists) and external stakeholders
- Provide sound technical planning advice across a mix of strategic and development management work
- Represent projects at pre-application meetings, committee hearings and public consultations
- Mentor and support more junior planners and contribute to team growth
What You’ll Bring
- A recognised planning qualification (relevant degree or equivalent)
- Chartered (or near Chartered) membership of the RTPI
- 2+ years’ relevant planning experience, ideally including major or mixed-use development and strategic work
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong project and client management capability
- Commercial awareness and a proactive mindset
- Ability to balance technical detail with commercial outcomes

Requirements
- Minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience in private sector planning consultancy, with a strong track record in rural planning and land use strategy.
- Demonstrated expertise in site allocations, farm diversification, permitted development rights, leisure and tourism developments, and landed estate planning.
- In-depth knowledge of the UK planning system, including the NPPF, Local Plan preparation, and development management processes.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage with clients, stakeholders, and planning authorities at all levels.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a hybrid working environment.
- Degree in Town Planning, Geography, Environmental Planning, or a related field; MRTPI membership is advantageous.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and a passion for sustainable, community-focused development.
