Job Description

Associate Town Planner

Location: York (2 days/week minimum, flexible hybrid working)

Salary: £50,000 – £60,000 + Bonus

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Sector: Renewable Energy, Residential, Commercial Planning

About the Opportunity

FutureGen Recruitment is proud to partner with a dynamic and forward-thinking town planning consultancy supporting a growing development company, primarily in the renewable energy sector. In addition to clean energy projects, their portfolio spans residential and commercial town planning—offering a stimulating mix of high-impact, technically rewarding work.

We are now seeking an Associate Planner to join this collaborative and flexible team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone ready to take ownership of planning applications, drive projects forward, and play a central role in the successful delivery of planning consents. You don't need experience specifically within renewable energy to apply for this role but you must be a competent town planner with significant experience with planning applications.

The Role

This is a delivery-focused planning role, where your primary responsibility will be managing and progressing a varied caseload of planning applications. Rather than business development, your day-to-day will centre on technical planning, project leadership, and client engagement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing planning applications across renewable, residential, and commercial sectors
  • Preparing, submitting, and negotiating planning consents
  • Coordinating inputs from internal and external consultants
  • Engaging with local planning authorities and key stakeholders
  • Providing trusted, professional advice to clients and project teams
  • Ensuring timely, high-quality delivery across all stages of the planning process

What We’re Looking For

  • MRTPI-qualified or working towards full membership
  • Proven experience in UK town planning (consultancy or public sector)
  • Strong understanding of planning policy and application strategy
  • Confident communicator and capable project manager
  • Proactive, organised, and comfortable working independently
  • Willingness to be based in York a minimum of two days per week

Why Join?

  • Flexible Working: No core hours. Outcome-focused, not timesheet-driven
  • Impactful Projects: Shape the planning landscape of renewable energy and mixed-use development
  • Career Growth: Work alongside senior professionals in a close-knit, high-trust environment
  • Rewarding Package: Competitive base salary plus discretionary bonus

If you're a planner who thrives on delivering high-quality outcomes and managing projects with autonomy, this is your chance to work on meaningful developments with a values-driven team.
