Do you get satisfaction from knowing exactly where an aircraft is, where it’s going and how it’s going to get there? Would you like to own guidance and navigation on platforms that go from concept to flight in weeks?

This innovator designs, develops and manufactures British-engineered unmanned aircraft systems and propulsion technology for leading defence and aerospace organisations. They're now building a brand-new UAV engineering team, and this role will lead the thinking on how its aircraft navigate and fly.

The role

You’ll be responsible for guidance, navigation and control across UAV platforms. That means defining requirements, designing and tuning control and navigation approaches, and making sure everything integrates cleanly with the wider aircraft system. You’ll work closely with simulation, software and flight test engineers, and you’ll see your work proven in the air.

What you’ll be doing

  • Designing and developing guidance, navigation and control solutions
  • Working with INS, GNSS/GPS and other navigation sensors, including sensor fusion
  • Defining system requirements, architecture and interfaces
  • Supporting integration, verification and flight testing
  • Analysing flight data to improve aircraft performance and robustness

What we’re looking for

  • Experience in GNC, flight control or navigation systems
  • Good understanding of control theory, state estimation and sensor fusion
  • A systems engineering mindset across requirements, integration and verification
  • Experience taking systems through development and test
  • Comfortable working across multidisciplinary teams

Experience on UAVs or autonomous systems would be ideal, but GNC experience from aerospace, defence, missiles, marine or robotics is equally relevant. We're open to engineers at all levels.
