This is a full-time, on-site Experienced Youth Mentor role based in Sherborne. The Experienced Youth Mentor will support young people in a farm and countryside setting, building trusting relationships and providing consistent, strengths-based guidance. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Planning and delivering structured activities linked to agriculture, rural skills, and personal development.
- Supervising and motivating young people during practical tasks.
- Working closely with colleagues, families, schools, and external agencies to monitor progress and respond to emerging needs.
- Ensuring safeguarding standards are met at all times.
- Keeping accurate records and contributing to support plans and reviews.
- Creating a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment where young people can build confidence, skills, and a sense of belonging.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in Youth Mentoring and Youth Work, preferably in outdoor, educational, or community-based settings.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with young people, families, and colleagues, and to manage challenging situations calmly and respectfully.
- Understanding of youth development principles, including trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches.
- Experience or strong interest in agriculture, outdoor learning, or vocational training environments.
- Commitment to inclusive, non-judgmental practice and the ability to support young people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work on-site in Sherborne, including active participation in outdoor, seasonal, and practical farm-related activities.
- Relevant qualification in youth work, education, social care, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, and risk assessment in work with children and young people.
