Job Description:
Our client is a signage company based in Hertfordshire, they are currently looking for a Commercial Manager to lead and manage all commercial activities across signage projects, from costing and estimating through to pricing strategy, contract negotiation, and client relationship management. This role balances hands-on estimating execution with commercial leadership, ensuring profitability, efficiency, and sustainable growth in a competitive industry. Plays a key role in change management and decision making to protect margin.
- Client & Business Development
- Support business development efforts across retail, hospitality, F&B, and leisure sectors.
- Leads commercial aspects of tenders and enquiries.
- Provides appropriate level of response.
- Manage commercial relationships with key accounts, Architects, Designers, and main Contractors.
- Monitor quote-to-order conversion and follow up with the sales team.
- Review and refine pricing models to ensure competitiveness while protecting margin.
- Oversee the estimating process, including sign-off on large project quotes.
- Collaborate with the design and production teams to ensure accuracy of specifications and pricing.
Project Commercial Management
- Monitor live project budgets, margin erosion, and scope changes.
- Handle contract terms, variation orders, and commercial risk on large or bespoke projects.
- Work closely with Project Managers to maintain commercial integrity throughout the delivery phase.
Strategic & Operational Contribution
- Contribute to annual forecasting, commercial planning, and performance analysis.
- Conducts planned vs. actual analysis.
- Evaluate supply chain costs and support procurement negotiations for better terms.
- Recommends to COO process improvements to streamline quoting, cost control, and job tracking.
- Monitors billing and client payments.
- Deals with aged debts with Account Managers and Project Managers
Required Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 5-7 years\’ experience in commercial, estimating or contract roles within signage, construction, fit-out, or manufacturing sectors.
- Strong track record in pricing, budgeting, and commercial reporting.
- Ability to read technical drawings and interpret signage specifications accurately.
- Experience working directly with clients and internal teams to close deals and maintain commercial discipline.
- Commercially minded, hands-on, and confident with data and spreadsheets.
- Familiarity with sign industry quoting software or CRM systems (e.g. Clarity, SignFab, ShopVox, Excel, or equivalent).
