This is a critical role focused on enhancing our VAT compliance framework, supporting a major tax engine implementation project, and conducting a comprehensive review of our UK/EU and Australian VAT processes across both output and input taxes. The successful candidate will bring deep technical expertise in UK VAT, strong project management capabilities, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders including Finance, IT, and external advisers.
What you’ll be doing
- You will undertake reviews of our existing VAT processes, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing best practice procedures to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- A significant element of the role will involve providing tax technical support for implementing a new tax engine, ensuring that the team correctly configures VAT determination logic and produces accurate and compliant outputs.
- You will conduct a holistic review of output tax treatment across all revenue streams, ensuring that you correctly classify liability and properly account for all taxable supplies.
- Similarly, you will review input tax recovery processes, with particular emphasis on our partial exemption special method, ensuring that you correctly apply the methodology agreed with HMRC.
- Additional responsibilities include providing technical support to the existing tax team when preparing and reviewing VAT returns and other compliance obligations during the contract period, developing and delivering training to finance and operational teams on VAT matters, and documenting processes, controls, and technical positions to support knowledge transfer at the conclusion of the contract.
Experience that will put you ahead of the curve
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CTA, or equivalent).
- Post-qualification experience in UK VAT, ideally gained within a Big Four or mid-tier accountancy practice and/or in a senior in-house indirect tax role.
- Experience with tax engine implementations (such as Vertex, Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE, or Avalara).
- Cross border and non UK VAT experience (EU/Australia).
- Analytical, with the ability to interpret complex VAT legislation and apply it practically to business operations.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical VAT matters to non-specialist stakeholders.
- Experience in process improvement and able to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously are also essential.
What’s in it for you
- This is a Hybrid role from our Bath or London Office, working three days from the office, two from home. We are also open to a remote worker for this position.
- Uncapped leave, because we trust you to manage your workload and time.
- When we hit our targets, enjoy a share of our profits with a bonus.
- Refer a friend and get rewarded when they join.
- Future Well-being support with access to our Colleague Assistant Programmes.
- Opportunity to purchase shares in Future, with our Share Incentive Plan.
