You will be expected to help make key decisions that are inline with the technical roadmap and platform. You should be able to clearly explain those decisions to the wider team (both technical and non-technical).

What you’ll bring:

  • Experience in mobile development specifically in React Native and cross-platform development
  • Strong expertise in TypeScript with advanced type patterns, generics, and type-safe development practices
  • Deep knowledge of state management including Redux Toolkit, Redux Saga, and Zustand for complex application state
  • Cross-platform understanding of iOS and Android platform differences, native modules, and device compatibility
  • Strong testing background using Jest, React Native Testing Library, test-driven development, and maintaining high code coverage
  • Proven debugging skills with React Native profiling tools, Sentry crash reporting, and performance optimisation techniques
  • REST API integration expertise using Axios, authentication handling, error management, and data transformation
  • DevOps experience with CI/CD pipelines, app store deployments, Expo development, and Firebase integration
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and mentorship skills for working with cross-functional teams and guiding junior developers

What we offer:

  • Uncapped leave
  • Enhanced parental leave
  • Discounted rates with Dental care and Private Medical care
  • When we hit our targets, enjoy a share of our profits with a bonus
  • Refer a friend scheme - with payment following the successful hire.
  • Well-being support with access to our Colleague Assistant Programmes
  • Opportunity to purchase shares in Future, with our Share Incentive Plan
  • Salary sacrifice Pension scheme up to 5% match
  • Free drinks and snacks in our offices

The expected range for this role is £55,000- £65,000. This is a UK remote working role.

How to prepare for a job interview at Future Publishing

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Future Publishing uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
