As a Developer you will work as an important member of Future's Platform Team, in close collaboration with the wider Technology & Engineering department. Your key aim is to ensure the delivery of scalable, well-structured, efficient web applications and components. You will work on both green-field projects built from the ground up, using the latest libraries and best practice, as well as maintaining and improving existing code. You will manage the scoping and planning of new software components, refactoring existing code and working with other teams to build new services and products.
Reporting to the Tech Lead, you will focus on building high-quality, performant UI components. These components are for Future's proprietary Vanilla platform, a system that integrates TypeScript and PHP. The Vanilla platform also integrates with TailwindCSS and powers major brands such as TechRadar, Marie Claire, PC Gamer, and Homes & Gardens. You will ensure code is well-scoped, documented, tested, and production-ready. This includes tracing and fixing bugs across the stack, writing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, and participating in code reviews and QA processes. You will stay up to date with modern development practices, help shape the evolving tech stack, and take part in regular hack days to prototype innovative technical and business solutions.
Experience that will put you ahead of the curve:
- Modern web development skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript, including knowledge of CSS/JS internals and modern build systems.
- Experience building performant, accessible UI components from scratch using modern JavaScript frameworks, with a focus on standards and consistency.
- Experience with full-stack development, including working with APIs, databases, and languages such as PHP, TypeScript, and/or Go.
- Experience with performance optimisation and tooling, including browser dev tools, flame graphs, Git, and debugging techniques.
- Comfortable working in modern delivery environments, including CI/CD.
What's in it for you:
- The expected range for this role is £45,000 - £50,000.
