We are looking for a solid, hands on Maintenance Person to keep our residential care home safe, compliant and well looked after. This is not just general DIY, we are a regulated environment and expect the highest standards. You will be responsible for the day to day upkeep of the building, grounds and services, making sure everything is safe, functional and meets CQC Regulation 15 Premises and Equipment requirements. The role suits someone practical, organised and confident working on their own initiative.
Main responsibilities
- Daily walk round checks of the building internally and externally
- Ensuring the premises are safe, clean, secure and properly maintained in line with Regulation 15
- Checking that equipment is safe to use, properly maintained and serviced
- Monitoring flooring, lighting, handrails, call bells, door closers and general fixtures
- Weekly fire alarm testing and recording
- Emergency lighting checks
- Fire door checks, call points and door retainers
- Supporting 6 monthly fire drills
- Monthly water temperature checks and Legionella control records
- Acting as Legionella Responsible Person, qualified or willing to undertake training as essential
- PAT testing and portable appliance visual inspections
- Monitoring hot and cold water systems
- Minor electrical works such as replacing fittings, bulbs and diffusers
- Minor plumbing repairs
- Painting and general decorative touch ups
- Garden and external maintenance (including lawn mowing)
- Managing the maintenance log book daily
- Liaising with contractors, head office and signing off works
- Ensuring safe storage of paints, tools and materials
- Supporting overall Health and Safety compliance
The Maintenance Person plays a critical role in ensuring the premises are safe, secure, well maintained and fit for purpose. This includes maintaining accurate, auditable records of all inspections, servicing, repairs and statutory testing. The role is fundamental to safeguarding residents, enabling safe care delivery and ensuring the service remains inspection ready and fully compliant at all times.
Required qualifications
- Proven maintenance experience
- Good general knowledge of building services
- Understanding of Health and Safety responsibilities
- Ability to manage and record compliance checks properly
- Legionella Responsible Person qualification or willingness to complete training immediately
- Full UK driving licence
- Enhanced DBS
Desirable and beneficial
- Electrical qualification beneficial
- Plumbing experience and training desirable
- PAT testing experience
- Experience working within a care home or healthcare setting
- Knowledge of fire safety systems
- Understanding of central heating systems and water systems

We require our maintenance systems, monitoring processes and record keeping to consistently meet the requirements of CQC Regulation 15, health and safety legislation and all associated statutory obligations.
