As a Senior Analytics Engineer, you occupy a strategic technical position at the heart of our data ecosystem, reporting into the Head of Data Analytics Engineering. You will architect the transition from raw data infrastructure into Data Products. These products are well‑modelled, documented, and governed. They serve as the organisation's single source of truth, powering Looker dashboards, advanced machine learning models in Vertex AI, and our latest conversational analytics platform.
Responsibilities
- Architecting High‑Performance Models: design and deploy sophisticated data transformation pipelines using Dataform, leading the transition of raw data into curated, production‑grade data products optimised for organisational scale and speed.
- Modernising Business Logic: lead the evolution of established business logic into modern, scalable SQL architectures, codifying institutional knowledge into robust, modular code.
- Strategic Technical Partnership: act as a consultative partner to BI, Data Engineering and Data Science teams, translating high‑level strategic requirements into structured data schemas and ensuring technical alignment before development.
- Advancing Engineering Standards: champion and apply software engineering best practices to the analytics layer, managing version control via GitLab, leading peer reviews and enhancing CI/CD workflows.
- End‑to‑End Delivery Leadership: own the full lifecycle of data product delivery, operating with high autonomy, orchestrating complex projects from discovery to production using Jira and ensuring impact and transparency.
- Championing Data Trust: set standards for data excellence, implementing automated testing frameworks and observability alerting to keep data products reliable and trusted by downstream users.
Qualifications
- Previous experience within Analytics Engineering or a technical data role, with a history of delivering end‑to‑end modelling projects in production environments (Experience in Digital Media is advantageous).
- Expert proficiency in SQL (BigQuery preferred), with a focus on performance optimisation and scalable logic.
- Hands‑on experience with Dataform or dbt, building data products optimised for BI platforms like Looker and ML platforms such as Vertex AI.
- A commitment to version control (GitLab), automated testing and writing clean, documented code.
- Experience creating detailed technical documentation of complex technical architectures for diverse audiences and managing project dependencies.
Compensation
The expected salary range for this role is £45,000 to £55,000. This is a hybrid role based in our Bath office, working three days from the office and two days from home.
