Job Summary
Future Pathways is a leading alternative provision provider in the North East, supporting children and young people at all key stages with social and emotional needs, including those who are disengaged and finding it difficult to manage in a school environment and/or mainstream education as a result of challenging behaviour or poor attendance. We provide the appropriate variation of; social, emotional and personalised support to allow all of our students to thrive. Through sport and active participation in a broad range of targeted activities we re-engage even the most disengaged children and young people. We have a supportive team of support workers and co-ordinators who effectively share expertise, skills and knowledge. We create bespoke and exciting learning opportunities and build on individual potential. Due to the success of our current provision, we are looking to expand into further authorities and build further provisions across the North East.
This is a term-time only position, working Monday to Friday during school term times. You will not be required to work during school holidays.
The role of a support worker:
- Supporting staff and co-ordinators in delivering a modified and individualised programme, including links to the curriculum through vocational and creative learning
- Completing daily reports to support with individual progress
- Promoting a positive and stimulating learning environment for children and young people, encouraging them to achieve their full potential in a safe environment
- Liaising closely with families and key professionals to support and encourage individual success
- Providing high levels of support and safeguarding to all children and young people.
- Planning appropriate activities for children and young people.
- Ensuring that risk assessments are in place and followed for any activity
- Listen to student voice, meeting with groups to gather their viewpoints and perspectives
- Liaise with parents and carers regularly
- Ensuring all protocols and procedures as outlined during induction are followed.
General Accountabilities:
- Act in accordance with the organisation\βs policies and procedures under the guidance of the designated Provision Manager and adhere to the organisation\βs Equal Opportunities and Diversity policy.
- Encourage their involvement in the decision making and management of alternative provision.
- Be aware of all aspects of learner health and safety, and ensure that activities are risk assessed using the appropriate in house systems.
- Be aware of all safeguarding procedures on a day to day basis, adhering to these where appropriate through the Designated Safeguarding Lead, and be aware of all policies and practice in relation to the safety of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- Work in conjunction with Future Pathways stakeholders and external improvement partners to develop education provision and quality of outcomes for all children and young people.
- Complete any training courses and professional development that is reasonably requested, this includes using the in house training provision (EduCare.)
Requirements:
- The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for the role are:
- A good standard of English and Maths grade C/ Level 4
- A full UK Driving License is essential as part of the role
- Have a minimum of 2 years relevant experience of working with children, young people or vulnerable adults, preferably in a similar setting
- Be dedicated and supportive, an excellent communicator and passionate about working with pupils with SEMH or behaviour related needs
- Have experience of providing high levels of safeguarding to young people.
- Be willing to potentially travel between Darlington and Sunderland to offer provision to children and young people.
