We are looking for a skilled Electrical Maintenance Technician to support the safe and reliable operation of our ferry service.
In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, fault-finding, and repairing electrical and electronic systems, power supplies, and switchboards across both vessels and shore-side equipment.
Acting as the first point of contact for technical issues, you will play a vital role in minimising downtime and ensuring operational continuity.
Working under the guidance of the Electrical Maintenance Supervisor, you will respond promptly to defects and contribute to the efficient delivery of maintenance activities across the site.
- Key Accountabilities
- Examine electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices like ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes to mitigate any risks in safe operability and to manage risk escalations and/or rectification in line with safe systems of work.
- Use power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment.
- Diagnose faulty systems or parts, using equipment and hand tools to find the reason for a breakdown.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or parts to spot hazards or defects.
- Prepare drawings or follow blueprints to see the placement of wiring or equipment.
- Work on the installation of ground leads and connect power cables to equipment.
- Direct or train other employees to maintain and repair electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures.
- Perform routine maintenance in accordance with planned maintenance system.
- Maintained all associated certification and compliance documentation.
- Ensure all electrical/electronic spares required for planned and reactive maintenance are ordered in good time and are available for use.
- Escort contractors to technical areas of site.
- Any other duties deemed reasonably necessary by the Marine Engineering Manager (Electrical).
Skills
- Strong technical analytical and fault finding.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft office applications.
- Ability to use planned maintenance software.
- Good decision-making and analytical skills.
- Established risk management skills.
- Knowledge
- Minimum qualification of Level 2 Electrical NVQ or equivalent (essential).
- Knowledge of electronic & power management systems (essential).
- Strong methodical approach to diagnostic and problem solving (essential).
- Familiar with the philosophy of hybrid integrated power generation and propulsion management systems (desirable).
Experience
- Electrical, electronic and control engineering (essential).
- Experience of carrying out electrical planned maintenance (essential).
- Experience in electrical fault finding, service, installation and repair (essential).
- Practical experience of electrical inspections and testing in high-voltage plant operations (essential).
- Supervision and training of technical support staff and apprentices in safe electrical working practices (desirable).
This is a safety critical role; therefore, Occupational Health Clearance will be required.
