Senior Technician

Job role:

Reporting to a DLO Electrical Work Controller, Team Leaders and is responsible for ensuring that the DLO Electrical Assets are maintained and delivered into service in a safe and timely manner. In addition to this, is to support other business units whenever instructed to by their Line Manager.

The job holder must be committed to LUL’s General Safety Policy statement and the Company’s safety program and be aware of their contribution to the program, including the requirement to monitor safety performance and compliance with the systems established to assist in maintaining high safety standards. The job holder must be familiar with the safety legislation that is relevant to them and comply with the necessary statutory requirements. These will include the Health & Safety at Work Act, Fire Precautions Act 1971 and other associated regulations.

Key Accountabilities:

• Must obtain and maintain the appropriate licenses/certificates for the role and team they work including:
• Safe Isolation (Level 3) - Essential for all areas/teams within the electrical discipline
• Basic Track Awareness / Competency (Stations or Depots) - Desirable
• PWT-EH or TH (Protecting workers on the track engineering hours or traffic hours) - Desirable
• Capable of identifying the requirements of the task in hand and manage a worksite.
• Able to test the integrity of the asset and declare it ‘fit for use’.
• Gather information, report lack of information to relevant persons, assemble tools, equipment and materials and check tools, equipment and materials for fitness for purpose.
• Must be able to deal promptly and effectively with problems within their control.
• Report to others, deviations which cannot be solved.
• Follow the correct process/operations for the allocated task.
• Establish and maintain communication with the relevant persons.
• Correctly establish scope and accuracy of testing.
• Carry out required testing using correctly accessed equipment and methods.
• Take action to rectify the defective asset.

• Good Information Technology skills around Microsoft products and asset management systems/applications in a field technician role

Knowledge:

• Successfully completed a registered apprenticeship including all knowledge and performance assessments, of the Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Installation Buildings & Structures), the Level 3 NVQ diploma in Installing Electrotechnical systems and equipment (buildings, structures and the environment) or the Level 3 Electro technical Qualification (Installation) Apprenticeship Standard (C&G 236 Parts 1& 2 or approved equivalent), plus the industry assessment of occupational competence (the AM2) OR have completed the JIB Mature Candidate Assessment including the AM2.
• Both the Level 3 Award in the Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations and the Level 3 Award in the Periodic, Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations (C&G 2391 or equivalent)
• BS 7671 18th Edition Regulations (or equivalent) and Full UK driving license is desirable.

Experience:

• Must be able to carry out electrical installation work efficiently and in accordance with the National Working Rules for the Electrical Contracting Industry, the current IET Wiring Regulations for the Requirements of Electrical Installations BS7671, the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989, and the Construction Industry Scheme Regulations.
• Must have had two years’ experience working as an Electrician subsequent to the satisfactory completion of training and immediately prior to the application for this grade.
• Must have demonstrated competence in Inspection and Testing.
