Job Overview

Our Colleague Strategy is focused on making TfL a great place to work for everyone and the Reward Strategy that underpins this is focused on transforming our Reward to make it fair, transparent and attractive for all whilst keeping it affordable. We are developing and implementing significant changes in Reward at TfL. This includes pay management and our journey towards pay transparency, rethinking our approach to our performance pay schemes and reinvigorating our benefits and recognition through benchmarking and actively listening to our people’s needs whilst maintaining our overall focus on affordability.

As one of a small team of Reward Specialists you will support three Senior Reward Managers to deliver on the wide range of compensation and benefits cyclical reward activities you would expect in a large organisation, as well as working on projects to evolve and deliver our reward strategy to better support our need for financial sustainability whilst providing a cohesive, fairer and more transparent reward proposition for our people overall. You will be supported by a small team of Reward Analysts, who also report to the Senior Reward Manager.

Your expertise in reward processes, stakeholder management, pay management, strategic problem solving, experience of working in a large, complex unionised environment (private or public sector) and demonstration of your ability to manage reward projects will help you stand out as a candidate.

Key accountabilities

  • Evaluate and design reward frameworks for compensation, benefits and recognition for the organisation to ensure that it delivers the intended outcomes to the business and our people.
  • Ensure the successful delivery of key reward, compensation processes including benchmarking, annual pay reviews, pay gap reporting and performance awards aligned to reward plans supported by the Reward Analyst/s.
  • Ensure collaboration with HR Operations and Business Partnering to understand requirements and effectively meet the needs of the business.
  • Provide robust reward guidance and advice on impacts and risks to support union and/or staff negotiations in support of reward and benefits development, governance, compliance and benchmarking activities.
  • Develop external networks and work collaboratively with a range of contacts and/or providers to benchmark TfL's position against external industry and market across the full total reward and benefits package.
  • Manage and maintain relationship with 3rd party suppliers including contractual, commercial and procurement activities.
  • Support the implementation of any potential changes to our wider reward, recognition and benefits frameworks.

What you can offer us

You will be able to demonstrate previous success of designing, delivering and communicating Reward solutions aligned to business and people strategies within a large, complex organisation. An understanding of employee benefits including voluntary schemes, tax efficient salary sacrifice and benefit in kind arrangements is also invaluable.

Beyond your proven Reward expertise, your desire and ability to work collaboratively with your colleagues in Reward as well as more widely across our People function is a pre-requisite for success. You will enjoy working together as a team of experts and sharing knowledge.

You have an ability to think strategically with an eye to the future and how we can evolve our Reward offering in addition to being highly competent in cyclical and operational Reward processes.

Through your own networks and resources, you keep yourself updated on developments in Reward and are keen to apply this to shape our future.

What we can offer you

A chance to work in a truly diverse organisation with a unique purpose. We do much more than run the Tube! Transport is central to the vision of the Mayor, Sir Sadiq Khan, to create a city for all Londoners. The Mayor's Transport Strategy sets out his plans to transform London's streets, improve public transport and create opportunities for new homes and jobs. Your work will help attract and retain our talent sourced from all quarters to fulfil this purpose, improving the lives of all Londoners.

A great team to work in. We would say that wouldn’t we?… But we are collaborative and supportive and will see your success as our own. TfL is committed to diversity. Action on Inclusion is our strategy that underpins our approach.

Great expertise in developing and designing Reward? Fantastic… but have you tried leading and managing change in a place like TfL? You will hone your skills in collaborating, engaging and working with stakeholders including our Trade Unions, more so here than anywhere you’ve been so far. You will need determination, tenacity and perseverance in equal measure to your expertise.

We offer hybrid working – we expect you to be in the office 50% of the time only.

We already offer a fantastic Reward package (we just need you to help us continually improve it and help us promote it better to our people). Competitive pay, annual performance award opportunity, DB final salary pension, discounted commuting and travel, private medical, 30 days annual leave, discounts, Cycle to Work, and an Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice Scheme are all on offer. And if there’s something missing, there’s always the opportunity for you to help put that right!

Equality, diversity, and inclusion

We are committed to equality, diversity, and inclusion. We want to represent the city we serve, which will help us become a more innovative and efficient organisation. Our goal is to make our recruitment as inclusive as possible. We are a disability confident employer who guarantee an interview to any disabled candidate who meets all of the essential criteria. We also use anonymising software that removes identifying information from CVs and cover letters to make the process fair.

Application Process

Please apply using your 2-page CV and a brief covering letter. Think carefully about the skills, knowledge and experience in the advert and cover this in your CV. PDF format preferred and do not include any photographs or images.

Closing date for applications Tuesday 11th August 2026 @ 23:59

First stage pre-screening interviews will be held on 21st and 24th August 2026.

All offers of employment are subject to satisfactory right‑to‑work checks. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their right to work in the UK. At the present time TfL is unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role.

At Transport for London, safety, trust and fairness sit at the heart of how we recruit. Our Vetting Charter explains the checks we carry out before you join us, helping ensure we create a safe, inclusive and reliable network for everyone who depends on our services. • Final salary pension scheme
  • Free travel for you on the TfL network
  • Reimbursement of 75% of the cost of a standard class Ticket for National Rail travel from home or 75% reimbursement on a 28-day flexi ticket

  • TfL is committed to work-life balance, operating a hybrid working approach where business and role requirements allow.
