Duration: 2 years and 3 months
Location: London/hybrid working minimum of 50% of your time spent working from the office. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.
Entry requirements:
You should already hold or be working towards a minimum of 2 A*-D A-Levels (or equivalent) and 2 GCSEs Grade 4 (C) or equivalent including Maths and English Language. You’re not eligible for this scheme if you currently hold or are working towards a qualification at the same or higher level in a related subject or have already studied content from the qualification for this scheme. You must be 18 years of age by 7th September 2026 to be eligible for this scheme.

Procurement and Commercial Apprenticeship Overview:
TfL spends billions of pounds every year operating the network. It is the Procurement & Commercial (P&C) function who are responsible for planning, sourcing, implementing and managing contractual relationships with suppliers. This means we need to work closely with our expert operational colleagues to understand the requirement, decide how we should source it, run a procurement, agree a contract and manage the supplier relationship. You’ll learn how to navigate the complexities of Public Sector procurement, negotiate with suppliers whilst developing professional competencies.
On the P&C Apprenticeship Scheme you can work in a number of different departments. You can gain expertise in procuring cutting edge technology, to maintaining established Underground lines, delivering new trains, major construction projects, travel, marketing, electricity, highway maintenance, station upgrades and much, much more.
What will I be doing?
As an apprentice, your 2-year 3-month development programme will be made up of four placement rotations. Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for your successful career. Here’s an idea of the type of placements on offer:
- Year 1 Placement 1 – P&C Utilities – 6 months: Working in the Utilities Team procuring the electricity that runs the London Underground and Rail networks.
- Placement 2 – P&C London Underground Fleet – 6 months: Working within the Fleet Team, procuring specialist parts to keep the trains running on the network.
- Year 2: Working on the Contract Management of TfL’s Microsoft contract to ensure 30,000 TfL users have access to all of the systems they need to do their jobs effectively.
- Placement 4 – P&C Capital Highways – 9 months: Contract management of surface transport contracts such as Cycle Hire, Taxi & Private Hire and the Woolwich Ferry.

Where can this career take me?
Upon successful completion of this scheme, you could roll‑off into a Commercial Officer or Assistant Commercial Manager role, dependent on your performance throughout the scheme. This could lead to further career development opportunities such as a Commercial Manager, Senior Commercial Manager, Head of Commercial, Commercial Director.
