Overview of project/role:

Places for London is looking for a driven and analytical real estate professional to join its Investment Management team at a pivotal stage in its evolution. The team has recently been established to bring greater focus and discipline to investment strategy, capital allocation and portfolio optimisation across a substantial and diverse property portfolio. As the business embarks on an ambitious growth trajectory, the investment function will play a crucial role in the delivery of Place’s objective to grow asset value from £2bn to £4.1bn by 2035.

The successful candidate will be involved in a range of high‑profile investment activity, supporting the development and execution of investment programmes and transactions across a mix of residential, commercial, logistics, retail and alternative use sectors. The position therefore requires strong working knowledge of property market dynamics, investment principles and valuation methodologies across multiple sectors together with the ability to apply this meaningfully in a practical, commercially focused and decision‑oriented way.

The Investment Management team operates in a highly collaborative environment, working closely with colleagues across Strategy & Planning, Finance, Property Development and Asset Management functions, as well as external advisors and strategic partners including Transport for London and the Greater London Authority. The role offers significant exposure across the business but demands the ability to work effectively across business functions, influence a broad range of stakeholders and contribute within a multi‑disciplinary environment.

Alongside strong analytical capability and commercial awareness, the role requires the confidence to engage in investment discussions, contribute to complex workstreams and bring clear, structured thinking to a wide range of strategic and transactional activity.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support the ongoing development and delivery of Places for London’s Investment Strategy.
  • Define and support the prioritisation of investment opportunities, helping to establish and deliver a credible investment programme that optimises returns and creates long‑term value for the organisation.
  • Lead the delivery of the bi‑annual Investment Portfolio valuation process, providing analysis, insight and constructive challenge to valuation outputs to support portfolio optimisation and strategic decision making.
  • Support the delivery of forward fund / forward acquisition transactions, including underwriting and negotiating opportunities and other due diligence activities.
  • Manage asset disposals in collaboration with sector‑specific asset managers to achieve capital receipt targets and enhance portfolio performance.

  • Strong understanding of property market dynamics and supply/demand characteristics for key property investment sectors.
  • Broad knowledge of key legislation and structural changes that influence the property industry.
  • Good understanding of core property investment concepts, including financial investment metrics.
  • Good working knowledge of core property valuation techniques.
  • Good knowledge of best practice in programme delivery and management.

Experience:

  • Developing and implementing an investment strategy and embedding it in a business planning process.
  • Transactional experience across a range of structures and delivery mechanisms.
  • Valuing commercial real estate assets through a range of methodologies.
  • Supporting complex programmes with a significant number of stakeholders.
  • Reporting to senior leadership on complex topics in a clear and concise manner.
  • Handling a varied workload that requires a significant range of professional knowledge and judgement at any one time.
