Our OEM Client based in Gaydon is searching for a UX Copywriter - In-Vehicle Digital Interfaces to join their team, Inside IR35. This is a contract position with a proposed end date of 31st March 2027. Umbrella Pay Rate: £27.03 per hour.
As a UX Copywriter for In-Vehicle Digital Interfaces, you will shape the voice, clarity, and effectiveness of all textual touchpoints within our digital cockpit experiences. Working at the intersection of design, engineering, and brand, you will define how our vehicles communicate, ensuring every message is intuitive, concise, on-brand, and compliant with safety and regulatory standards.
You will be responsible for reviewing, refining, and approving all in-vehicle text including infotainment, clusters, notifications, warning messages, settings, and connected services. You will also lead the development of messaging strategies, patterns, tone of voice guidelines, and frameworks that support consistent communication across platforms and vehicle lines.
Key Responsibilities- UX Writing & Content Design
- Review and refine all text displayed on in-vehicle digital interfaces.
- Produce clear, concise, and user-centred copy including labels, CTAs, menus, error messages, system prompts, warning messages, and instructional content.
- Ensure all content aligns with the company's brand voice and supports a premium customer experience.
- Ensure text is translatable, culturally appropriate, and scalable across global markets.
- Warning Messaging Strategy
- Define warning messaging principles, guidance, and language standards.
- Lead a recurring cross‑functional forum to ideate, review, and approve warning messages.
- Establish, maintain, and release scalable message libraries and copy patterns to drive consistency across nameplates and platforms.
- Collaboration & Delivery
- Work closely with interaction designers, product owners, HMI engineers, and researchers to ensure content enhances overall user experience.
- Contribute to design reviews, user testing, and iterative refinement of digital cockpit features.
- Research & Continuous Improvement
- Use insights from user research, usability testing, telematics data, and competitive analysis to optimise content.
- Champion UX writing and content design best practices across the organisation.
- Expert command of the English language, with impeccable grammar and clarity.
- Proven experience in UX writing, content design, or product writing for digital interfaces (preferably embedded or hardware-related).
- Exceptional writing and editing skills with a focus on clarity, brevity, and user experience.
- Experience working within design teams using tools such as Figma, Jira, Confluence, or similar.
- Understanding of UX/UI principles, design systems, and content patterns.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and navigate cross-functional decision making.
- Experience in automotive, consumer electronics, or other embedded systems.
- Familiarity with internationalisation (i18n) and localisation (l10n) best practices.
- Knowledge of HMI standards, accessibility principles, and multimodal interface design.
- Ability to contribute to user research and testing activities.
