Our OEM Client based in Gaydon is searching for an Axle Function & Integration Engineer to join their team, Inside IR35. This is a maternity cover contract position with a proposed end date of 31st March 2027.

Umbrella Pay Rate: £28.43 per hour.

Duties:

  • Reporting to the Axle Function & Integration Chapter Leader, this role requires an individual to support the delivery of the design of the suspension/axle concept and associated CAD geometry to meet the agreed timing for multiple nameplates off a platform.
  • Support the development of the Axle CAD concept and integration of corner modules and axle links into subframes and rest of vehicle for all vehicles across a platform.
  • Respond to work requests and follow technical direction, methods and processes provided by the Solution Architect, in order to complete programme deliverables.
  • Create suspension layout studies and check packaging including consideration of kinematics, dynamic envelopes (e.g. wheel envelope), compliances, tuning and component variability.
  • Generate suspension hard point datasheets for release, plus selected other chassis geometry datasheets (e.g. anti-roll bar routing) and cascade these to all relevant areas.
  • Generate and complete the DVP for suspension assemblies for the requirements that depend on CAD as the validation tool (for example clearance checks).
  • Work with different Chassis departments and other Groups to ensure ‘best practice/should designs' are included in concept studies.
  • Work as part of the wider team to solve package and geometry related issues in a timely manner.
  • Create specialist assemblies and package volumes for use by manufacturing, vehicle packaging and other Groups.
  • Develop new processes and techniques to improve the Axle design process, in order to meet the timing requirements of current and future programmes.
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience Required:

  • Experienced user of Catia v5 or Catia v6 (Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE).
  • Knowledge of suspension design fundamentals.

Essential Personal Profile Required:

  • High levels of personal organisation, driven, self-motivated and able to deliver with minimum supervision.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Candidates must be committed, flexible and able to work under pressure.
  • Willingness to learn and introduce new methods to increase personal and team effectiveness.

Essential Education Required:

  • Mechanical Engineering based degree (MEng, BEng, MSc or BSc).

Desirable Skills, Experience and Knowledge Requested:

  • Good working knowledge of Axle System Targets and Attribute Interaction.
  • Good working knowledge of product creation & delivery, product definition and change management processes.
  • Knowledge of general vehicle components, systems and sub-systems.
