Mechanical Project Engineer — Somerset, UK
£55- £65 per hour + Long Term Contract (40+ hours per week) + 3 days on-site
The Role
We are recruiting for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join the Joint Design Office (JDO) based in Somerset. This role will suit an experienced mechanical engineer with a strong background in project delivery, design acceptance, and site support from a highly regulated industry. Industry background is flexible – we welcome candidates from nuclear, oil & gas, petrochemicals, energy-from-waste, defence, chemical process, or other heavy industry projects.
Responsibilities
- Responding to RFIs, FCRs, NCRs, and RERs raised by installation contractors.
- Reviewing and accepting/rejecting design changes from a mechanical perspective.
- Supporting the construction team with practical engineering solutions to maintain project schedules.
- Liaising with design authorities, project managers, and quality teams to resolve issues.
- Ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
- Contributing to risk assessment and mitigation during project delivery.
What We’re Looking For
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Strong background in mechanical systems design, installation, or commissioning.
- Experience in design review, query resolution, or project engineering support.
- Knowledge of construction standards, HSE/CDM, and regulated environments.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills in a multidisciplinary setting.
