Job purpose: The Technical Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing technically complex materials, components, and services to support production, typically requiring a background in engineering or manufacturing. This role ensures that all procurement activities align with engineering requirements, quality standards, delivery timelines and cost objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Procurement & Sourcing: Procure direct/indirect materials, engineered components, and subcontract services.
- Supplier Management: Lead supplier negotiations (pricing, lead times, contract terms) and build long-term partnerships.
- Supplier Performance Improvement: on time delivery in full, quality of product and compliance with ISO standards.
- Technical Compliance: Interpret engineering drawings and specifications to ensure procured parts meet quality standards.
- Operational Support: Manage purchase orders from RFQ to delivery, including expediting urgent orders and minimizing inventory risks.
- Cost Management: Track market trends and conduct benchmarking and analysis, negotiating terms to optimise competitiveness and cash flow to report savings monthly, and manage budget expenditures.
- System Utilisation: Use ERP/MRP software to maintain accurate inventory and order records.
- Resolve any query invoices to aid the cash-flow of the business within the month of issue.
- Perform basic clerical duties within the department.

Education/Qualifications (desirable):
- CIPS or equivalent
- Engineering qualification
Technical Competencies (essential):
- Experience in a technical buyer or procurement, preferably within a manufacturing or engineering environment
- MRP/ERP experience
- Proficient with Microsoft applications - Excel and Word
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings and complex specifications in any or all of the following: electrical, mechanical or hydraulics

- 37 hours per week - Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm (4pm Friday). Flexi time is available.
