We are looking for an experienced Facilities Manager to lead a council’s Facilities Management service, providing leadership and operational oversight of the estate so that buildings are safe, compliant, efficient and sustainable.

Location: Newton Abbot, TQ12 4XX
Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00
Rate: £22.91/h PAYE
Key responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and develop a team of facilities staff
- Develop and deliver an FM strategy aligned with organisational objectives
- Manage delegated budgets and external contracts, ensuring value for money
- Oversee hard FM (plumbing, electrical, mechanical, heat pumps, EV charging, fire safety, lifts, solar, CCTV) and soft FM (cleaning, grounds, reception, security, porters)
- Manage risk, health and safety, and sustainability initiatives
- Use data to report on space efficiency, compliance and running costs
Essential
- Significant proven experience in facilities management
- Experience of managing staff, budgets and financial planning
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and building services
- Understanding of sustainability and carbon reduction
- Level 4 FM qualification (IWFM or equivalent) and a management qualification such as ILM Level 4, or a willingness to work towards them
- Excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail
- Driving licence
Desirable
- Experience in energy management and contract negotiation
- Knowledge of local government
