Job Description
Job Title: Project Engineering Manager\\nLocation: Derby\\nDuration: 6+ months (initial) – Outside IR35\\n\\nWe are recruiting a Project Engineering Manager for a 6-month contract in Derby, working on a UK Freight Project (ETCS rollout).\\n\\nYou will lead the Engineering team, providing direction to Project Engineers across locomotives at various lifecycle stages, including design, first-in-class installation, fleet production, and type testing.\\n\\nKey Duties:\\n\\nLead the On-Board Engineering team, ensuring project deliverables align with schedules.\\n\\nCreate and monitor engineering plans, reporting against budget and timeline, taking proactive action where needed.\\n\\nUpdate and manage resource requests to maximise team utilisation.\\n\\nWork with Head of Engineering and Work Package Managers to drive efficiency, consistency, and adoption of new processes and tools.\\n\\nProvide input on technical, product, and commercial solutions within the given environment.\\n\\nExperience Required:\\n\\nStrong knowledge and experience in design and installation of train systems (ETCS, TPWS, AWS, GSM-R, Wi-Fi, CCTV, DAS).\\n\\nTrack record in delivering rail vehicle modification installation projects.\\n\\nExperience managing teams delivering complex technical work packages.\\n\\nAbility to understand and capture installation design requirements and produce supporting compliance information.\\n\\nUnderstanding of electrical and mechanical design drawing production and train approvals process.\\n\\nAbility to review requirements, produce written comments, and attend reviews.\\n\\nExperience liaising with subcontractors across the full project lifecycle.\\n\\nStrong communication skills across all business levels and with customers.\\n\\nWillingness to work from Derby 3 days per week, with flexibility to travel to Midlands fitment partner sites.\\n\\nDesirable:\\n\\nUnderstanding of Freight Locomotives.\\n\\nKnowledge of ETCS/CBTC and GSM-R implementation.\\n\\nExperience in operational or maintenance environments.\\n\\nExperience in major subcontract environments.\\n\\nAbility to review product installation designs against guidelines and constraints.\\n\\nPrevious experience in application designs for maintenance.\\n\\n— Fusion People are committed to promoting equal opportunities to people regardless of age, gender, religion, belief, race, sexuality or disability.
