Mechanical Engineer
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join a major energy infrastructure project within the growing hydrogen and low-carbon sector.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a technically challenging project, supporting the mechanical installation, commissioning and successful completion of a large-scale facility.
Working closely with the Project Director and wider project team, you will be responsible for ensuring safety, quality, programme and commercial objectives are achieved throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and coordinate all mechanical installation activities across the project.
- Ensure all works are carried out safely and in accordance with project and company procedures.
- Take responsibility for the delivery of mechanical works from installation through to commissioning.
- Review and interpret mechanical design information, drawings and specifications.
- Provide technical support and guidance to supervisors, foremen and installation teams.
- Ensure procurement activities are technically compliant and aligned with project programmes.
- Monitor progress against programme, budget and quality requirements.
- Manage and coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and specialist contractors.
- Identify project risks, issues and potential delays and implement corrective actions where required.
- Support commissioning, testing, snagging and project handover activities.
- Ensure accurate project documentation, record drawings and O&M manuals are maintained.
- Represent the business in meetings with clients, consultants and project stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with all Quality, Safety, Health and Environmental procedures.
- Support productivity improvement initiatives and performance monitoring activities.
- Assist with the training and development of junior team members and trainees.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Experience working within mechanical building services, M&E, industrial or infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of mechanical installation and construction methodologies.
- Experience working on technically challenging, multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Ability to review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
- Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating site-based activities.
- Strong commercial awareness with experience working to project budgets and programmes.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proactive problem-solving approach with the ability to identify and mitigate project risks.
- Committed to maintaining high standards of safety, quality and compliance.
About You
- HNC, HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Black CSCS Card.
- IOSH Managing Safely certification.
- Proficient in Microsoft Project, Word, Excel and Power Point.
- Professional membership or registration is desirable.
- CIBSE membership would be advantageous.
- Comfortable working within complex and highly regulated project environments.
- Strong leadership qualities and the ability to motivate site teams.
- Capable of working both independently and as part of a collaborative project team.
- Passionate about delivering high-quality engineering projects.
