Role Overview
My client is seeking an experienced Consultant in Public Health to join a local authority public health team in the South West. You will be working within a Public Health and Communities directorate, supporting the Director of Public Health and providing senior leadership across health improvement, health protection and health and care public health. This role plays a key part in improving population health outcomes, reducing health inequalities and delivering statutory public health duties through effective system leadership and partnership working.
Key Responsibilities as Consultant in Public Health
- Support the Director of Public Health in delivering core public health objectives
- Provide expert public health leadership across the local authority and partner organisations
- Lead and advise on evidence-based commissioning, service development and evaluation
- Utilise public health intelligence and data to inform strategy and decision-making
- Ensure delivery of mandated public health services and relevant outcomes frameworks
- Participate in the in-hours consultant rota and deputise for the DPH as required
- Line manage senior public health staff and support training and development
- Promote equality, address health inequalities and the wider determinants of health
Hours
40 hour week. Hybrid working with a requirement to attend council offices an average of two days per week, plus attendance at in-person meetings as required.
Person specification
- Registered on the GMC Specialist Register, GDC Specialist List, or UKPHR at the point of application (or within 6 months where applicable)
- MFPH (or equivalent) and up-to-date CPD
- Significant senior-level public health leadership experience
- Strong understanding of the health and care system and local government public health
- Proven ability to influence at senior and political level
