Job Purpose: As a Hire Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Hire Desks to ensure that my client is delivering an excellent service to the customer and increasing sales revenue. Managing a team of Hire Controllers, you will motivate and develop the team to create a customer-focused approach within their role in this fast-paced environment. You are the crucial link between their clients, the transport division, and their Service & Repair team to ensure that the right equipment is available and delivered to customer sites on time, maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
Main Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Supervision: Lead, manage, and motivate a team of hire desk coordinators to ensure all hire requests are processed smoothly and efficiently. Provide training, guidance, and support to staff, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Hire Desk Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the hire desk, ensuring that all plant and equipment hire orders are processed accurately and in a timely manner. Manage the allocation and dispatch of equipment, ensuring that customer needs are met and that equipment is available when required. Ensure that all hire agreements, contracts, and documentation are completed correctly and in line with company standards.
- Customer Service & Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with both customers and colleagues, addressing any queries or concerns and resolving issues promptly. Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by ensuring accurate, reliable, and professional service delivery. Handle customer complaints or disputes in a calm and effective manner, escalating when necessary.
- Reporting & Administrative Duties: Using provided reports, monitor fleet utilisation, availability, hire activity, and revenue, to identify opportunities for efficiency improvements and increased revenue. Ensure that all administrative tasks related to hire contracts, invoicing, and returns are handled efficiently.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience: Proven experience working within the plant hire industry, construction, or a related field. Previous experience in a managerial or supervisory role within a hire desk environment is highly desirable. Strong understanding of construction plant, machinery, and equipment.
- Skills & Attributes: Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to build relationships with clients, colleagues, and suppliers. Strong organisational skills with a high attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficient in using hire desk software systems and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook). Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines. A proactive approach to problem-solving and improving processes.
