Role: Health and Safety Manager Location: Stoke-on-Trent (Hybrid) Duration: Permanent Salary: c£40,000 – £45,000 + car/allowance + package My client is a family-run company established over 30 years ago. They are known for their reputation in providing comprehensive central heating and hot water solutions, including renewable energy alternatives. Duties of the Health and Safety Officer The Health & Safety Officer is a key operational role responsible for driving and embedding a proactive safety culture and ensuring high-quality compliance across the Group. This role is vital in ensuring that excellent Health and Safety processes are consistently met, directly contributing to increased operational efficiency and profitability. Key Responsibilities & Deliverables Lead by example to foster a strong, preventative Health and Safety culture across all business units. Chair the internal Health & Safety Committee, ensuring all relevant issues are addressed and actions implemented. Chair the Accident and Incident Review Panel, leading investigations into incidents and near misses to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Conduct regular, thorough risk assessments and site inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with best practices and regulatory requirements. Develop, review, and implement safety policies and procedures (Risk Assessments and Method Statements), ensuring they are practical, current, and understood by all staff. Monitor lone-working device usage and contribute to the enhancement of lone worker safety protocols. Advise and deliver safety training to staff on best working practices and complete Health and Safety inductions for all new starters. Liaise effectively with inspectors and Departmental Managers on all HSE matters. Drive cultural change and continuous improvement initiatives related to health and safety throughout operations. Support high standards of work by assisting with engineer audits and conducting inspections on site. Support environmental management initiatives including waste management and energy consumption tracking. Assist with maintaining compliance to ISO 9001 and 14001 management standards. Work in close collaboration with the Compliance Officer to ensure the continuous maintenance of Group accreditations, including but not limited to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, PAS 2035/2038, Gas Safe, OFTEC, Safe Contractor, and CHAS.Required Skills, Experience & Qualifications of the Health and Safety Officer Essential previous experience in a dedicated Health & Safety role, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of Health & Safety management systems. Experience working effectively in a multi-site environment, demonstrating adaptability across different operational contexts. Beneficial, but not essential, experience within the Gas, HVAC, or Construction industries. Proven experience in investigating accidents and writing detailed reports. Experience in monitoring training needs and advising on safety procedures. Auditing proficiency: Ability to conduct effective site inspections and assist with engineer audits. Excellent Technical Writing skills: Capable of developing clear, concise, and comprehensive policies, procedures, and reports (e.g., RAMS).
